LJUBLJANA
The capital, Ljubljana, is a nice lively city with approximately 300,000 inhabitants. Entertainment and numerous cultural events (Ljubljana Festival in summer), congresses and fairs enhance its unique character.
No road trip through Slovenia would be complete if you didn’t take some time off and enjoy a stroll through the old town centre and a cup of coffee at one of the numerous cafés overlooking the River Ljubljanica.
And even if you stay in Ljubljana for several days, you will not get bored as it boasts many cultural points of interest, such as museums and art galleries, good shopping opportunities, a vibrant foodie scene and many bars & clubs for a fun night out. But, perhaps most crucially, Ljubljana’s central location within Slovenia makes it the best starting point from which to explore the country.

MARIBOR
Maribor, the second town of Slovenia in terms of the number of inhabitants, is developing into a proper city. Hotels of the highest category can cater to the needs of the most demanding of guests.
Maribor is not only a congress and cultural centre, but also an ideal starting point for trips to the neighbouring Austria, Hungary or Croatia.
Beside numerous other sights in town, you can marvel at the oldest noble grapevine in the entire world and Slovenia’s biggest wine cellar.
We recommend that you take a trip through the nearby wine country. The ski slopes of Pohorje that host the annual women’s alpine skiing world cup events are only a stone's throw away from the town, too.

As you will be driving through Slovenija, we recommend that you stop and take a walk through charming well-preserved smaller historical towns, such as Škofja Loka, Radovljica, Kamnik, Piran, Kostanjevica, Štanjel, Ptuj and Idrija, to name bit a few; or enjoy the lively atmosphere of slightly bigger regional urban centres, such as Kranj, Novo mesto and Celje. In these towns, you will not only find good cafes, small shops and carefully protected medieval, renaissance and baroque buildings, but also old castles, many of which host interesting collections and are open to visitors.
